Takumi Saijo (voiced by Hiroyuki Yoshino) is a standard underachiever with a cowardly and irresponsible personality. He lives in a shipping container and spends his days playing online games at home, deeply immersed in the two-dimensional world, believing that everything in the three-dimensional world has nothing to do with him. Meanwhile, a series of bizarre murder cases called "New Gene" are happening in Shibuya, notorious for the brutal deaths of the victims. One day, Takumi encounters a mysterious figure named General (voiced by Tsubasa Yonaga) in an online chat room. The General predicts the details of the next bizarre murder case in an animated tone and sends bloody and violent scene photos. At first, Takumi dismisses it as a prank, but days later, everything the General predicted becomes reality. Takumi secretly infiltrates the crime scene and encounters a blood-soaked girl with hollow eyes, Rina Sakihata (voiced by Eri Kitamura), and believes she is the murderer. However, soon after, Rina appears before Takumi again as an old friend. Who is the real killer? What is the true identity of the General? In the midst of reality and fantasy, Takumi's chaotic mind must make life-and-death decisions time and time again.
