Matsuda Keito (voiced by Tsunemura Makoto) is a fifth-grade boy with a passion for fantasy. By chance, he picks up a magical card that transports him to the digital world, where digital monsters live. There, he meets Gilmon, unaware that Gilmon will become the most important partner and friend in his life. To protect the digital world and the digital monsters, one of the Four Holy Beasts, Phoenixmon, continuously sends evil creatures to the human world, causing danger and chaos. Keito, along with his friends Makino Ruki (voiced by Orikasa Fumiko) and Li Jianliang (voiced by Yamaguchi Mayumi), joins the battle to protect peace.
