Gankutsuou is adapted from the novels "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "The Stars, My Destination," produced by GONZO. It has won the "Tokyo Animation Award" for outstanding works in the television category at the Tokyo International Anime Festival. Two noble partners, Albert and his friend Franz, travel through space and encounter a mysterious billionaire known as Count Mondego, who has returned victoriously from the outer cosmos in the lunar city of Luna. A mysterious figure who claims to be the Count of Monte Cristo piques their interest. The Count arrived in the city a month ago and quickly becomes a topic of conversation due to his extravagant generosity, yet no one knows his background. His mysterious appearance, exceptional sensitivity, wise dialogues, and bold actions completely captivate Albert. The Count also desires for Albert to be his bridge to the Parisian social scene. Although Franz is very concerned about Albert being so easily drawn to the Count, Albert remains completely oblivious. In fact, the Count's true purpose is revenge.
