The son of a wealthy merchant, Machizo Kuramochi (played by Mio Yoshioka), has been obsessed with painting since childhood. Following the bankruptcy of his father's business and the subsequent suicides of his parents, Machizo's childhood becomes grim. Nevertheless, he never gives up on his dream of becoming a painter. As time passes, the young adult Machizo (played by Yuurei Yanagida) immerses himself in the art world. To improve his skills, he attends an art school, where he meets a group of like-minded friends, sharing joy, anger, sadness, and the ups and downs of life with them. He frequently visits galleries, but his works go unrecognized, with only a girl named Sachiko (played by Kumiko Asou), who works at the same printing factory, truly understanding Machizo's art. As he reaches middle age, Machizo (played by Takeshi Kitano) remains obscure, but despite the hardships of life, his wife Sachiko (played by Kanako Higuchi) stays by his side, supporting each other as they continue down this challenging artistic path… This film won the Audience Award at the 2009 Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria.
