Set against the backdrop of the American-Soviet Cold War in the 1950s, this film tells the love story of the female protagonist, Katie Morosky (played by Barbra Streisand), and the male protagonist, Hubbell Gardiner (played by Robert Redford), who fall in love after getting to know each other, but ultimately part ways due to their differing personalities and political beliefs. Katie, a strong-willed leftist girl, serves as the president of the Young Socialist Alliance at school, while Hubbell, who advocates for self-preservation, is known as a talented athlete and writer.
