Max DeCosta (played by Robert De Niro) is prosecuted for rape and hires lawyer Sam Bowden (played by Nick Nolte) to defend him; unbeknownst to him, Sam is a feminist. In righteous anger, Sam deliberately conceals a piece of evidence that could benefit Max, ultimately leading to Max being sentenced to an additional 6 years. Lacking legal knowledge, Max discovers Sam's betrayal while self-studying law in prison and vows to take revenge on him. Fourteen years later, Max is released from prison and begins his revenge plan. He first appears near Sam's house, causing panic; then, the people Sam sends to deal with him are easily defeated by him; he later breaks into Sam's home and kills the bodyguard and the cook. In fear, Sam's family flees to a place called "Cape Fear," and Max follows...
