In a small town, a supermarket's promotional vehicle is driving around, broadcasting the news of its anniversary sale, while Reiko (played by Hideko Takamine) from the Morita family-owned department store is feeling troubled. This family-run department store is Reiko's in-laws' business; shortly after her marriage, her husband died in battle, leaving only her elderly mother-in-law (played by Aiko Sanmiya) and her young brother-in-law Koji (played by Yuuzou Kayama) at home. Reiko has been shouldering the burden of running the shop for eighteen years, but now faces a severe blow from the supermarket. Reiko’s sisters-in-law, Hisako (played by Teruko Asahi) and Takako (played by Yumi Shirakawa), wish to transform the Morita store’s land into a supermarket, a redevelopment plan that does not include Reiko. After realizing the situation, Reiko decides to leave the Morita store under the guise of remarrying. On the other hand, Koji can no longer suppress his feelings for Reiko and confesses his love. Reiko's calm life is disrupted by this confession, causing her to feel unsettled and giving her an opportunity to leave this place of confusion due to the supermarket's redevelopment. On their way back to her hometown, facing parting, Reiko shows her reluctance to leave and realizes she has feelings for Koji too, but cannot express them due to their uncle-nephew relationship. As they near her hometown, what awaits Koji and Reiko: a mutual exchange of love, or a deeper tragedy…
