This is the first film in which Naruse achieved great success, starring the actress Chiba Sato, who later married him. The story follows a cheerful girl working in an office, living with her mother, who is about to get married. She discovers that her father is living in the countryside with his mistress, and decides to find him and convince him to return home. Upon arrival, she finds her father living with a large family and witnesses the love the mistress has for him and the children. When her father comes to town for her wedding, she realizes that her parents are clearly incompatible, and thus can only allow him to return to his mistress's family. This film ranked first in the “Top Ten” of Film Weekly's annual list.
