After the U.S. military invades Iraq, Staff Sergeant William James (played by Jeremy Renner) is assigned to the Army's bomb disposal unit, replacing a comrade who was killed during a mission in Baghdad. The other two members of the bomb squad, the communications officer Sergeant Sanborn (played by Anthony Mackie) and the protected specialist Owen (played by Brian Geraghty), are quite resentful of the headstrong James.
