A medical researcher, Katsuki, who is in unrequited love with the beautiful geisha Kiyoba Takino, boldly confesses his feelings one day, but is rejected by Kiyoba, who is devoted to her husband. Upon hearing this, his rival geisha, Oko Inabayaya, tries to woo Katsuki as a target. Meanwhile, Igarashi, who was previously rejected by Kiyoba and then pursued and discarded by Oko, is obsessively following her... This literary drama is a film adaptation of the same-named novel by the pioneer of Romanticism, Kyocha Izumi, by the renowned duo of scriptwriter Natsuto Wada and director Kon Ichikawa. Set in early Taisho-era Nihonbashi, it portrays the conflicts between two factions of popular geishas and the colorful human relationships marked by the desires and colors of the men involved, featuring a luxurious cast. The competition among the three prominent actresses, Chikage Awashima, Fujiko Yamamoto, and Fumiko Wakao, cannot be missed.
