Tim (played by Domhnall Gleeson) is 21 years old when his father (played by Bill Nighy) tells him that the men in their family have the superpower of time travel, allowing them to go back to the past. Skeptically, Tim tries it and goes back to the summer, where he attempts to change his relationship with his crush, only to find that no amount of time travel can make someone who doesn't love you fall in love with you. Later, Tim moves to London and becomes a lawyer. He falls in love with a beautiful girl named Mary (played by Rachel McAdams) and uses several time travels to try and become her boyfriend. He then attempts to use time travel to rectify a failed play, improve his sister's life, and better interact with family and friends to make the most of each day.
