Sam, a death row inmate for the bombing that killed the two children of a Jewish lawyer, has been in prison for over a decade. It is only 28 days before his execution that he meets his grandson Adam, now an assistant lawyer, for the first time. Sam is a racist who despises Black people and looks down on Jews, as the Jewish lawyer was a civil rights activist. Sam was used by a racial organization to bomb the lawyer's office but ended up killing the lawyer's two children instead, leading to his arrest and death sentence. However, deeply affected by racial education, Sam decides to take all the blame upon himself to protect other racists. Adam persuades Sam to appeal using sincere requests and by sharing their family's misfortune. Adam begins to learn about his grandfather's story. Sam got involved with the KKK due to family connections and was already part of three lynching activities by the age of ten. Four generations of Sam's family have participated in the KKK, with his earliest ancestor being one of its founders. For Sam, killing was merely fulfilling his duty. Through investigation, Adam discovers that Sam does not understand explosives, making him unlikely to be the mastermind. He believes that reviewing files with official permission will uncover more substantial evidence. However, the governor disagrees, and Sam tells his grandson to give up the appeal. But Adam is determined to exonerate his grandfather. With the help of a black woman, who works in the governor's office, Adam gains access to sealed files, revealing that others were involved in the bombing, which was covered up due to potential implications involving government officials. Sam became a scapegoat. With the assistance of a federal agent who had worked on the case, Adam finds the mastermind RW, who orders a beating for Adam and threatens him with a gun to abandon the appeal. RW goes to the prison to threaten Sam, urging him to keep quiet and sacrifice himself. Gradually, Sam begins to awaken, yearning to confess to those he has harmed and develops some hope for life. However, due to the massive impact of the case and manipulation by certain individuals, the Supreme Court rejects the appeal, and Sam is executed, rolling his eyes in the gas chamber.
