The story is set in Germany during World War I. Manfred von Richthofen is a German pilot who has an impressive record of shooting down 80 enemy aircraft, known as the ace of aces, with the nickname "The Red Baron." This film is adapted from the life of this legendary figure. Manfred (played by Matthias Schweighöfer) comes from a distinguished family and has dreamt of flying since childhood. After becoming a German pilot, he gains the respect of others, including enemy pilots he has shot down, because of his exceptional skills and unique combat style. In one battle, Manfred shoots down British ace pilot Brown, and upon confirming his victory, he discovers that Brown is only injured and saves him. During this process, he meets a beautiful nurse (played by Lena Headey) and falls in love at first sight. In 1917, Manfred becomes Germany's top ace pilot and receives the highest medal awarded by the Emperor himself. He later paints his aircraft a striking red and leads Squadron 11, becoming unstoppable at an altitude of 3,000 meters, thus earning the name "The Red Baron." In a subsequent battle, he is hit and suffers a bullet wound to the head. Soon, the German high command, realizing the promotional value of "The Red Baron," intends to protect him by advising him to withdraw from the front lines and stop flying. However, the passionate aviator Manfred refuses to obey the order and insists on continuing to fight. Finally, he faces his last combat mission of his flying career...
