This film is adapted from James Ellroy's novel, depicting the corruption within the police force and rampant crime in Los Angeles during the 1950s. Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey) is a renowned figure in the police force, frequently appearing in the media, colluding with gossip journalist from the "Hush-Hush" tabloid to fabricate and expose scandalous stories about celebrities for extra income. Ed Exley (Guy Pearce), taking after his father's legacy, enters the police department with ambition and meticulousness; he gets promoted by betraying colleagues, leading to his ostracism. Bud White (Russell Crowe) is tough and uncompromising but has an impulsive nature, making him susceptible to manipulation. A suspected robbery-homicide case connects these three individuals. Ed Exley finds three black suspects, leading to a death sentence and receiving accolades from his superiors. However, he discovers that the case is not as straightforward as it seems and persuades Jack Vincennes to continue the investigation with him; Bud White has always been suspicious of the restaurant case, and the clues he uncovers indicate that the case is far more complex than initially thought. The three become quickly embroiled in a web of pornography, drugs, murder, betrayal, corruption, and conspiracy, revealing shocking truths...
