In 1944, as World War II approached its end and the Axis powers faced certain defeat, the world was on the brink of peace. However, in Japan, many passionate young patriots continued to rush to the battlefield with no return. A young teacher at a certain school, Masahira Shirabane (played by Sho Sakurai), felt proud to enlist honorably. In his last class before departure, he encouraged his students to take to the battlefield and sacrifice for their country, a fervent declaration and military songs that changed many destinies. After the war, Masahira returned to his homeland missing an arm, faced with a desolate and ruined landscape, where the people's lives were difficult and they did anything to survive. Meanwhile, former enemy Americans appeared as saviors on his home soil.
