Directed by the "film author" Nobuhiko Obayashi and adapted from the 1981 literary award-winning novel by Akemi Hotta, "Aiko at Sixteen" by Akihiro Imaizumi. This film marks the debut of idol star Yasuko Tomita, who was just 16 years old when she was selected from 127,000 candidates to play the lead role of Aiko, earning her the Best Newcomer Award at the 8th Japan Academy Prize in 1985. The film tells the coming-of-age story of Aiko Mita, a first-year student in the archery club at Hoshikyu High School in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Aiko enjoys sitting on her rooftop and gazing at the scenery. With the arrival of the summer vacation, she faces the vibrant yet restless season of youth, ultimately taking brave steps to embrace her adolescence and experience personal growth after a series of joys and sorrows... Life is like archery; it resides in the heart. It is not about hitting the target but about whether: the heart is true or not.
