This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by contemporary Japanese author Mai Seao, which won the "Honya Taisho" award in 2019 and swept major bookstores in Japan, becoming a gentle embrace at the end of the Heisei era. The adapted film will feature Satomi Ishihara as the mother character from the novel, with Mei Nagano playing her daughter (12 years younger than Ishihara). The film is scheduled for release in 2021. The story revolves around family and love. Seventeen-year-old Yuko Morimiya (played by Mei Nagano) is a senior high school student whose mother passed away when she was young. Following this, Yuko faced continuous foster care, having three different fathers and two mothers (Ishihara playing the stepmother), experiencing seven changes in family structure and even changing her name four times. At the same time, she also undergoes the painful growth from an innocent youth to an independent woman. The baton of love is passed through non-blood familial ties, allowing her to receive the best kind of love. This story presents a more universal depiction of non-blood familial relationships than "Shoplifters" and "Like Father, Like Son," intertwining poignant bonds of family, friendship, and love, prompting reflection on the meaning of family: even without blood ties, we can still find happiness.
