This film is adapted from the masterpiece of Japanese author Futaro Yamada, titled "Kouga Ninjutsu Notebook." It was released in Japan in September 2005, with a total investment of 1.5 billion yen. During the reign of Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1614, two historically rival ninja villages—Iga and Kouga—established an agreement to maintain peace, deciding to avoid contact while regularly competing in martial arts contests to determine supremacy. The heirs of the two ninja villages, Oboro (played by Yuki Naka) and Gennosuke (played by Joe Odagiri), accidentally meet and fall in love without knowing each other's identities, but a tragic fate awaits them. To solidify his power, Tokugawa schemes politically, igniting conflict and opposition between the two villages in order to eliminate the rival clan.
