One of Hollywood's best propaganda films during World War II. Director Howard Hawks authentically portrays the story of the U.S. Air Force B-17 bomber "Mary Ann" and the members of its bombing crew. The film's "political awareness" is very prominent, but it does not hinder the progression of the story. The dialogue written by Dudley Nichols is concise and powerful, and many scenes reflect his respect for the Air Force, with combat sequences being high-quality, tight, and thrilling.
