A handball song that Aming (played by Hiroshi Mikami) heard his mother (played by Keiko Niitaka) hum during her lifetime haunts him, leaving him at a loss. He once consulted the principal and a monk (played by Juzo Itami) about this song, but no one knows its origin. He traverses mountains and seas, experiencing the bizarre world, all in search of answers to his troubling question. During this journey, memories of childhood and youth (played by Takeshi Wakamatsu) continuously intertwine, and Aming gradually touches the deepest parts of his memory and heart... This film is adapted from the novella of the same name by Kyoka Izumi. It marks Hiroshi Mikami's debut and renowned director Shuji Terayama served as the assistant director. The film was shot in 1979 but was shelved until it was publicly screened for the first time at Terayama's memorial service after his death in 1983.
