The unremarkable Anne (played by Awkwafina) is an ordinary employee at a company. Perhaps due to her personality or her ethnicity, she exists almost as a transparent figure in the office, rarely participating in group discussions, and others inadvertently ignore this Asian girl. One day, a phone call from a nursing home disrupts Anne's life. Her mother has eloped with someone, leaving her daughter with $80,000 in debt and a sister, Jenny (played by Sandra Oh), whom she hasn't seen in years. Unlike her sister, Jenny is flashy, carefree, and has no plan in life, living in chaos. Just when things couldn't get worse, Anne's beloved dog is kidnapped by gangsters for ransom. The two sisters are forced to scramble for money.
By chance, Jenny reveals Anne's talent for trivia games online, and suddenly Anne becomes a new generation internet sensation. This socially anxious girl has to step into the public eye to make money...
