DJay (Terrence Dashon Howard) is a pimp who spends his days picking up clients with prostitute Nola (Taryn Manning) in his car. His life is extremely dull, and he feels deep midlife crisis. During an illegal transaction, DJay buys a cartoon electronic piano, which evokes memories of his time in the choir. He learns that hip-hop superstar Kenai Black (Ludacris) will have a concert on July 4th. He hopes to record his demo and send it to the hip-hop big shot. As a result, DJay begins to reassemble a band, enlisting the help of old choir friend Key (Anthony Anderson), white pianist Blair, pregnant Shag (Taraji P.
