In 2004, the PS-12 satellite, dedicated to searching for mineral resources, detected an unknown heat source in Antarctica's Sector 14 and discovered the remnants of an unknown civilization. To uncover the truth before others, the owner of the PS-12's parent company, Charles Bishop Weyland (played by Lance Henriksen), quickly assembled a team of scientific elites, including Graham Miller (played by Ewen Bremner) and Alexa Woods (played by Sanaa Lathan), to venture into the uncharted territory of Bouvet Island.
