The story takes place 20 years after the Battle of the Brethren Court in Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End. A boy named Henry (Brenton Thwaites) embarks on a voyage with the British Navy to find his father, "Davy Jones" Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), who is cursed by the Trident of Poseidon. However, he encounters Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), a ghost unleashed in the Bermuda Triangle. Freed Salazar seeks to slaughter pirates in the Caribbean and has conquered the entire domain. He learns from the witch Haifaa Meni (Golshifteh Farahani) that he must find his old enemy, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). The pirates' fates are tied to the imprisoned Black Pearl, now in the hands of the disgraced old Jack, and the ancient trident mentioned by astronomer Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario).
