Judith (played by Bette Davis) is a socialite drifting in the high society. One day, she discovers she has a tumor in her head and a limited time to live. Pessimistic yet stubborn, Judith decides to let herself go and embarks on a life of wild parties. During a party, Judith meets neurosurgeon Dr. Steele (played by George Brent), who successfully removes her tumor after performing surgery. During this time, they fall in love. Judith and Steele quickly marry, and their life together is filled with happiness and joy until one day Judith discovers her tumor has returned. In despair, she returns to her former hedonistic lifestyle, which causes great pain for Steele.
