Steven Taylor (Michael Douglas) is a wealthy mogul dominating Wall Street, yet money and status never satisfy him. What he longs for is the loyal love of his wife, Emily (Gwyneth Paltrow), but he has always been reluctant to express his feelings for her. The beautiful and talented Emily does not want to be a mere trophy wife. While working, she meets the talented but poor painter David Shaw (Viggo Mortensen), and experiences the passion and love that her husband has never given her. However, their frequent secret meetings are eventually discovered by Taylor, and fueled by jealousy and the temptation of his wife's substantial life insurance, Taylor gradually develops the idea of killing her. He meticulously plans a perfect murder, but no plan is foolproof when confronted with change, and a cat-and-mouse game is just beginning... This film is a remake of the classic suspense film "Dial M for Murder" by the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, from 1954.
