In 1976, an accountant faces an unjust criminal penalty for an unfounded accusation and is determined to fight to the end. Spanish director Alberto Rodríguez, known for "The Tenth Man," returns to the big screen after a six-year hiatus with a film based on true events, shot on location in the now-closed Modelo Prison in Barcelona, reflecting on Spain's democratic transition following Franco's death in 1976. The film cleverly uses sudden scares to create a thriller atmosphere, highlighting the various inhumane torments inflicted by prison guards on inmates. Through a series of public outcries leading to dramatic escape attempts, it ignites the survival instinct of ordinary people and vehemently criticizes the injustice of the national legal system. The film received 16 nominations at the 2023 Goya Awards, ultimately winning 5 technical awards, including Best Art Direction.
