In the summer of 1950, the life of a six-year-old boy named Marko (played by Moreno D'E Bartolli) in Sarajevo is filled with friends and football, along with witnessing the cautious behavior of adults. His father, Misa (played by Miki Manojlovic), is a womanizer who is having an affair with a female gym teacher but has no plans to break up his family. Life is warm and calm for the family of four. Soon, Marko's friend's father is taken away, while Misa finds himself investigated by his brother-in-law due to inappropriate remarks and is sent to a labor camp in a mine. Misa leaves on the day of Marko's circumcision, and his mother tells Marko that his father is on a business trip. After Misa's time in the mines comes to an end, the three family members move to the small town of Zvornik to reunite with their father. While working in the town, Misa resumes his habit of infidelity, and Marko makes a new friend—Masha, the daughter of a doctor. However, the return to Sarajevo seems still far away. During the local National Day event, Marko is chosen to present as a Young Pioneer, but when he goes on stage, he also says the wrong thing… The film won the Palme d'Or at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival and the FIPRESCI Prize.
