In 1965, on a small island called New Penzance, a group of Boy Scouts is stationed at Camp Ivanhoe. Scoutmaster Ward (Edward Norton) discovers one morning that student Sam (Jared Gilman) has left a note and run away. So Ward and the Boy Scouts begin searching for Sam, while island police officer Sharp (Bruce Willis) also starts a search around the island. It turns out Sam's escape was well-planned; he has run away with "troubled" girl Susie (Kara Hayward), the daughter of a lawyer couple on the island who view her as a problem child. During the search, Susie's father (Bill Murray) seems to suspect that his wife is having an affair with the police officer.
