In middle age, Nappers (played by Marcello Mastroianni) begins to experience the helplessness of life and the unpredictability of fate. One day, on a train, Nappers encounters a stunningly beautiful woman, and he becomes deeply enamored by her beauty. The woman seems equally interested in Nappers, but just as their connection deepens, she suddenly disembarks from the stopped train, prompting a surprised Nappers to follow her. Following the woman's footsteps, Nappers arrives at a large hotel, where he finds himself in a veritable "City of Women." In this City of Women, Nappers undergoes a bizarre journey filled with pain, and amidst questioning, interrogation, and torment, he can no longer distinguish between whether everything here is a dream or reality.
