British director Danny Boyle is set to shoot "127 Hours" for Fox Searchlight, based on a true story about American climber Aron Ralston's struggle for survival after amputating his own arm. On May 2003, climbing enthusiast Aron Ralston was trapped for five days and nights in a canyon in Utah when a boulder fell and pinned his right arm. To escape, he endured excruciating pain and, over the course of more than an hour, broke both his radius and ulna, used his hiking shorts as a makeshift tourniquet, and then used a knife to amputate his right forearm from the elbow. After freeing himself from the rock, he crawled through the narrow and windy canyon with superhuman determination, rappelled down 60 feet to the canyon floor, and walked five miles before encountering rescuers, ultimately surviving.
