The story takes place during World War II, where Walter (played by Garry Marshall) is a once-popular baseball star who has now fallen to the sidelines. He decides to form an unprecedented women's baseball team. He notices the beautiful and tall Dottie (played by Geena Davis), and her sister Kit (played by Lori Petty) follows in her footsteps to join the team. After the addition of key players like Marla (played by Megan Cavanagh), the team's strength rapidly increases. After several setbacks, Walter's "women's army" gradually gains recognition in the sports world. However, just at this critical moment, the team experiences internal strife, with Marla and Kit leaving, leading Walter to contemplate giving up. Just then, the return of Dottie's husband Bob (played by Bill Pullman), who is away at war, gives the team new hope.
