In the slums of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this is "City of God," a place where even the devil would sigh and turn away. Alexandre (Alexandre Rodrigues) takes us here; he has witnessed over twenty years of chaotic life engulfed by brutality, greed, revenge, ambition, betrayal, and plunder, ultimately leading to a catastrophic gang war. Although he has had to navigate among criminals to survive since childhood, his timid nature and instinct for self-preservation have allowed him to live safely. In the early 1960s, Li'l Zé, Rocket, and Benny were the "young trio" here. After robbing a hotel, the three parted ways, with Benny returning to God's embrace, while Li'l Zé and Rocket would both pay the price with their lives. In 1970, the young thugs of the "young trio," including the ruthless Douguinho (Douglas Silva), continue to annex others' territories, becoming the "little tyrant" of the slums. Their business escalates from robbery to the more lucrative drug trade, alongside Benny (Phellipe Haagensen). Benny meets the beautiful Angelica (Alice Braga) and plans to retire, but at a farewell party, he is unexpectedly murdered by his rival. In his grief, the "little tyrant" rallies forces to avenge Benny, sparking an outbreak of gang violence. At this point, Rocket, by chance, becomes an intern photographer at a magazine, capturing the grim reality of children wielding guns and the endless cycle of vengeance between gangs.
