The protagonist of this work is an alien who came from Saturn to investigate human ecology. He lived on Earth as the second son, Hideo, of the Sanada family, under the care of the responsible eldest son, Yumeji, the reliable eldest daughter, Imono, and the not-so-reliable youngest son, Shibun.
