The film is based on a true story from America in the 1940s. Fernández (played by Jared Leto) is a professional con artist who uses his usual methods to meet nurse Beck (played by Salma Hayek) through the "Lonely Hearts Club," intending to swindle her out of her money. However, Beck is a poor woman living on welfare, and upon realizing there’s no profit to be made, Fernández decides to end the relationship. Unexpectedly, Beck has fallen deeply in love with this con artist, and she's even willing to stay by his side and con people with him. Fernández uses his skills to win the hearts of various women, and the true and false encounters between them exacerbate Beck's jealousy and possessiveness. Driven by complicated emotions, she often kills the deceived women, resulting in over ten innocent victims—one of whom has already given birth to Fernández's child. This blood-soaked couple draws the urgent attention of the police, and the long arm of the law is closing in…
