Michael (played by Paul Newman) is an exceptionally talented rocket scientist and a valuable national asset under protection. Sarah (played by Julie Andrews) is Michael's assistant and his fiancée. One day, they travel together to Copenhagen to attend a seminar held there. During their time in Copenhagen, Michael's behavior becomes very strange, leaving even Sarah, who usually understands him, perplexed. His bizarre actions can only be explained by one thing: he intends to betray his country and flee to East Germany. To uncover the truth, Sarah starts investigating Michael, but ultimately, she chooses to escape with him. Their actions as a couple hide unknown motives.
