As a rookie cop, LAPD detective Erin Bell (Nicole Kidman) goes undercover with her partner to infiltrate a notorious crime gang in the California desert, led by the extremely terrifying and unpredictable Silas. Years later, Erin has still not escaped the trauma of her past nightmarish experiences, and Silas's reemergence forces her to confront the demons within. Reluctantly, she re-investigates the painful past in search of her team's other members, desperately trying to find Silas's whereabouts to finally close the case that nearly destroyed her. Amidst a stifling atmosphere and suffocating omens, this finely crafted pessimistic detective story can be said to be Kuszama's most complete and nuanced film to date, evoking memories of California crime classics such as "Chinatown" and "L.A. Confidential." However, unlike these testosterone-driven tough guy films, "Destroyer" is a distinctly female story, reaffirming Kuszama's commitment to placing women at the center of the narrative, as demonstrated in her diverse works like "Girlfight" and "Jennifer's Body." This time, Kuszama has the strong support of Kidman, whose stunning and unrestrained performance showcases her innate ability to truly immerse herself in the role both physically and emotionally.
