The story takes place on the border between France and Belgium, where Ruben (Benoît Poelvoorde) and Marcel (Dany Boon) are customs border inspectors from Belgium and France, respectively. Strong-willed and stubborn, Ruben is a staunch nationalist who scoffs at everything French, including the Frenchman Marcel, unaware that Marcel has developed genuine feelings for his sister, Louise (Julie Bernard). The arrival of 1993 completely alters the previously separate relationship between Ruben and Marcel, as the border checkpoint is abolished, making them colleagues and partners who see each other daily. In the midst of conflict and confrontation, Marcel can no longer hide his love for Louise. A “world war” is about to break out.
