A group of self-important, superior friends decide to hold a "Dinner for Idiots" on Wednesday evening. The rules are very simple: each person must bring the biggest "idiot" they can find to the dinner in order to win rich prizes. One of the participants, Pierre (played by Thierry Lhermitte), plans to bring along his new acquaintance, Pignon (played by Jacques Villeret). Pierre thinks this seemingly silly Pignon would be the perfect choice. However, his clever plan backfires completely, as Pignon turns the tables and makes Pierre the target of the jokes instead. Thus begins a series of hilarious misunderstandings. This comedy film, directed and written by Francis Veber, is adapted from his 1993 play, "Le Dîner de Cons." With its twisty comedic plot and outrageous humor, the film was both a critical and commercial success, winning three César Awards at the 24th César Awards in 1999: Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Original or Adapted Screenplay.
