FX has recently officially released the six-episode limited series "The Sterling Affairs," written by Gina Welch, the screenwriter of "Foes" and "The Cleaner." The series stars Laurence Fishburne from "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Hannibal," along with Jacki Weaver, who has been nominated twice for her roles in "Animal Kingdom" and "Silver Linings Playbook." The story revolves around Donald Sterling, the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, who purchased the team in 1981 for $12.5 million, but whose performance never improved. What truly made Donald "well-known" was the racial discrimination scandal that erupted in 2014. During an argument with his Latinx girlfriend in September 2013, he made inflammatory remarks when he expressed displeasure over her posting a photo with Magic Johnson, stating, "I feed black people, pay them; everything they have is because of me." After this conversation was made public, it caused a sensation and sparked protests. Ultimately, Donald was banned for life and fined $2.5 million by the league; he was also ousted from the Clippers, which later changed ownership. Additionally, Donald had multiple extramarital affairs and engaged in a nearly sixty-year tug-of-war with his wife, Shelly Sterling, before seeking a divorce. Jacki will play Shelly, while Laurence will portray another key figure for the Clippers—Doc Rivers, who joined the team in 1991 and helped them reach the playoffs, then coached from 2013 to 2020. Under the shadow of the racial scandal, Doc continued to lead the team to fulfill his contract.
