Andrew (Dane DeHaan) is like most introverted boys—shy, inarticulate, and mildly socially anxious. The abuse from his father and his mother’s serious illness make him wary of everything around him, transforming him into a filming enthusiast who hides behind the camera, lost in his own little world. To open up future opportunities for Andrew, his cousin Matt (Alex Russell) invites him to a school party. During the party, on the suggestion of Matt's friend Steve (Michael B. Jordan), the three embark on a thrilling excursion to explore a cave, where they unexpectedly gain the supernatural ability to manipulate objects with their minds.
