Successful and vigorous Steven Freeling (played by Craig T. Nelson) moves into a suburban community in California with his wife Diane (played by JoBeth Williams) and their three children. However, not long after moving in, strange occurrences begin to happen. First, their youngest daughter Carol Anne (played by Heather O'Rourke) experiences sleepwalking episodes, talking to the television that randomly displays static. Then, unidentified objects begin to float out of the TV, strange earthquakes occur, and glass cups shatter inexplicably... all of this disturbs the Freeling family's peace. Before long, the terrifying events escalate, culminating in Carol Anne being pulled into the television... This film won three awards at the 1983 American Science Fiction Horror Film Festival, including Best Horror Film, Best Makeup, and Best Supporting Actress (Zelda Rubinstein); it also received the Best Special Effects Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 1983.
