An embalmer (abbreviated as EM) is a technical worker specialized in disinfecting, preserving, repairing, and properly storing damaged bodies. They work year-round in dark, enclosed spaces, embracing loneliness and making every effort to restore the body to its appearance in life. The beautiful Murakami Miyako (played by Takashima Reiko) is one of the embalmers. One day, the body of a 17-year-old youth, Kindo Yuki (played by Matsuo Masatoshi), who committed suicide by jumping from a building, is brought to Miyako's studio. After some restoration work, Yuki's head mysteriously goes missing. Miyako, together with Detective Hiraoka (played by Matsushige Yutaka), investigates the potential sale of the body, slowly narrowing their focus on Yuki's former girlfriend—high school student Shinohara Rika (played by Miwa Hitomi). As genius doctor Dr. Fuji (played by Shiba Toshio) and the religious organization Daikoin become involved, the case becomes increasingly perplexing…
