Boxer David Gordon (played by Jamie Smith) lives alone in a shabby apartment, across the window from a beautiful dancer, Gloria (played by Irene Kane), who gradually attracts him. One night, after returning from a match, David finds Gloria about to be raped and rushes in to save his love. It turns out that the rapist is the owner of the nightclub where Gloria works (played by Frank Silvera), who endures humiliation for the sake of his livelihood. The two disillusioned individuals bond and agree to leave their sorrow behind in search of happiness. David goes out to raise travel funds, but when the nightclub owner learns that Gloria is about to leave, he becomes furious and sends thugs to kidnap her... This film won the Best Director Award at the Locarno International Film Festival in 1959.
