Waku Shinji (played by Masanobu Uchida) is an investigator of abnormal death compensation for a life insurance company. One day, he is invited to the home of client Kodaira Shigetaka (played by Masahiko Nishimura) and unexpectedly discovers the suicide scene of Kodaira's stepson, Kazu. Afterward, the Kodaira couple shows little sadness, instead constantly urging Waku to collect the compensation. Waku deduces from various suspicious points that Kazu did not commit suicide and secretly begins an investigation. The Kodaira couple transitions from urging to threatening, exhausting Waku. Ultimately, after a police investigation, Kazu is deemed to have committed suicide, and the Kodaira couple receives a large payout. Just when Waku thinks the matter is settled, he learns that Kodaira Shigetaka accidentally had his arms severed at work, and his wife, Yukiko (played by Shinobu Otake), is highly suspicious. Waku reinvestigates but finds himself caught in a darker vortex than he imagined…
