Sermons in old tales, lectures on hobbies, bragging about illnesses. Then, at times, lethargy and complaints. Young people, who are fed up with the old folks spreading their burdens and even wish they would just go away, yet can't voice it. No matter how much the old folks argue, the younger generation only accumulates stress. Despite this, society urges that "end-of-life planning" should be considered early on. Those in their 50s, who are supposed to be young, or even the generation of children reaching their 60s feel an inexplicable anxiety. Those children also carry complex situations and emotions. Meanwhile, the old folks feel it too—the societal wind that subtly places them in a separate category. A family living in a town near Kawagoe, Saitama, centers around Toyama Fukutaro, who supposedly passed the company to his daughter's husband, and five elderly neighbors—the "Old Burden Quintet"—who stir up trouble during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the family’s ensemble drama.
