In Wan Chai, Hong Kong, the owner of an electrical shop (played by Bao Qijng) lost her husband early. She and her sister raise her son, A Lai (played by Jacky Cheung). However, A Lai is obsessed with detective novels, remains single at 41, and often talks to his imagined deceased father. At a matchmaking dinner, A Lai meets Ailian, a salesperson from a sanitary ware store (played by Tang Wei). Initially awkward, they later enjoy each other's company in a tea restaurant. However, Ailian is preoccupied with her gangster boyfriend Ah Xu (played by Andy On), so she is indifferent about this arrangement. A Lai also receives an invitation from his ex-girlfriend (played by Zhang Ke Yi) to become a male model, and sparks seem to rekindle between them. Although A Lai and Ailian both harbor secrets, they meet again on Hennessy Road. Meanwhile, the shop owner has a falling out with her long-time boyfriend (played by Lee Siu-Hung) over tax issues, and she unknowingly witnesses A Xu holding hands with Ailian while shopping. Unable to withstand the blow, she completely collapses and is hospitalized. Afterward, the relationships of A Lai with his ex-girlfriend and Ailian with Ah Xu begin to change...
