Tess (Nastassja Kinski) was born into a small farming family in the English countryside. One day, her father hears that they are descendants of the ancient noble family, the D'Urbervilles. This rumor dramatically changes Tess's life. There is a wealthy family with the name D'Urberville living nearby, and Tess's parents encourage her to seek a relationship with them. Tess's beauty catches the eye of Alec D'Urberville (Leigh Lawson), who takes away her innocence, leaving Tess pregnant. Tragically, the child dies shortly after birth. This harrowing experience at the D'Urberville family leaves Tess stripped of the virtue that society values most. When she later meets Angel (Peter Firth), believing he is her lifelong partner, she is abandoned on their wedding night when she confesses her past. Desperate about love and life, Tess faces another upheaval with her family. When Alec pursues her again, Tess finds herself with no choice. However, Tess's fate continues to plummet...
