Tom (Romain Duris) inherits his father's underground real estate business. To drive away the stubborn residents, he comes up with various twisted ideas: releasing rats to create a rat infestation, cutting off water and electricity to force people out, destroying property with a baseball bat, injuring unrelated individuals... Meanwhile, he also has to help his father resolve various troubles. While using these thug tactics, he feels no compassion at all. One night, Tom suddenly discovers that life can go in a different direction. He coincidentally meets the agent of his deceased pianist mother, which reminds him of the beautiful times spent practicing piano in his childhood, a wonderful period destroyed by reality. Tom recalls his elegant mother and tries to reclaim the forgotten rhythm in his heart. He meets a Chinese girl who teaches piano, and despite the language barrier, he starts learning piano from her. Music helps their communication become smoother. Tom becomes obsessed with practicing the piano and neglects his real estate work, leading to increasing dissatisfaction from his father and friends. Will Tom be able to choose between following the rhythm of his heart and escaping the shackles of his father to live forever in darkness? This film won Best Score at the 2005 Berlin Film Festival.
