Retired detective Zhu Guangxi (Zhao Decheng) on the eve of his retirement, during an operation to capture the robbers Bao Dalang (Yao Anlian) and his brother, fatally shot the resistant Bao Erlang (Wang Lu). He then began a secluded and simple retirement life in the suburbs. Years later, Bao Dalang escapes prison and, while at his ex-girlfriend A-Zhen's (Dong Jiong) house, encounters her current boyfriend. An argument leads to violence, resulting in a murder before he flees with cash and a camera. He then kidnaps Zhu Guangxi's granddaughter Zhu Zhu (Yang Qianqian) at a school and sends a tape of beating Zhu Zhu to Zhu Guangxi. Bao Dalang attaches an explosive device to Zhu Zhu and arranges a meeting with Zhu at a tea house. Local police officer Li Changfu (Mao Yongming) identifies the exact location of the hostage from the tape in a derelict tower and rushes to rescue her. Having arrived at the tea house on time, Zhu Guangxi discovers Bao Dalang holding a remote control. Zhu’s subordinate Chen Zihua (Wei Guochun) silently informs Li Changfu, who is on his way to the hostage site...
